Baptisms

You are most welcome to celebrate the Baptism of your child in this Parish either at St .Paul’s, Glen Osmond or at St. Raphael’s, Parkside.

Booking forms are available from the Monastery Office.

Before we can confirm your booking:

1. Please contact the Receptionist and she will put you in contact with the Parish Priest, Fr. Brendan Connell CP.

2. For all baptisms in our parish a preparation session is held for each family. It is normally necessary to attend one such preparation session before the ceremony can take place. This session will be arranged by the Receptionist at the Monastery

3.  You will need to choose two people as godparents for your child. Since it is their responsibility to help you in your vocation as parents and to provide your child with an example of catholic values, it is normally required that at least one godparent be a catholic.

Some further information:

4. During the ceremony we will refer to " a white garment" with which your child is clothed. If it is possible you may wish to dress your child in white christening garments.

4. During the ceremony your child will be presented with a baptismal candle. At the time of booking the ceremony, supply of candles will be discussed with you.

 5. The offering for the ceremony covers the stipend to the celebrant and the special baptismal certificate.

6. So as not to inconvenience others we ask that you be on time for the ceremony.

As well as being a personal celebration for yourselves and your family, baptism is a celebration for the entire parish community and so there may be several other families sharing in the one baptismal celebration. You may wish to discuss with Fr. Brendan the possibility of the baptism taking place during Mass.

The ceremony usually begins at the front of the church and includes a procession into the church. Cameras and videos are welcome, but please remain a discrete distance from the main focus of the ceremony. The celebrant will usually help with directions for the most appropriate times etc.
