PASSIONIST GENERAL
COUNCIL
- HISTORIC MEETING
AT THE MONASTERY
The General Council of the world wide Passionist Order has
been meeting at The Monastery in Adelaide from last Tuesday 13th
September.
Fr. Ottavianno D' Egidio CP, Superior General since 2000, has adopted a policy of helping the members of his Council and the senior administrative officials of the Congregation to familiarize them with
the Passionist world by scheduling some meetings each year in a different region.
The week-long meeting involves Father Ottavianno and the six members of his Council, each of whom has
a delegated responsibility for the different geographical regional groupings of the
Order. Various officials, including the private Secretary to the Father General,
the
Secretary for Missions who coordinates ministry in undeveloped countries, and the Financial Administrator of the
Congregation have also accompanied the Father General.
During the meeting, a first for Oceania, the General Council met with the three member International Commission planning the
restructuring of the Passionist world. Fr. Denis Travers CP, the Provincial Leader for Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea is
a member of this Commission.
On 16th and 17th of September, the Father General and his Council met with the Provincial Leaders from the Asia and Pacific Region,
while the Financial Administrator met with the regional Treasurers of the Region.
On the Feast of the Holy Cross, Wednesday September 14th, there was a special Mass with the Father General and his Council at 8.30 am in
the Monastery Church. Some parishioners, Monastery staff and members of the
Passionist Companions shared in this Eucharist.
