The 26th Passionist Provincial Chapter of the Holy Spirit Province - Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea -
took place at Holy Cross, Templestowe (Melbourne) from 1st - 7th July 2007.
July 4th Thursday Day of Elections
After Morning Prayer, Fr. Clemente invited us to spend more time in prayer and discernment. Then as we reassembled he outlined to us the elections procedures and norms for majorities in the voting. In an atmosphere of prayer we proceeded to vote for those brothers who will lead us for the next four years. As each person was elected. Fr. General asked them if they would accept this responsibility for their brothers. When each had agreed, Fr. General confirmed them in office.
The results of the voting were as follows.
Provincial Superior: Fr. Joachim Rego cp
Consultors: Fr. Brian Traynor cp, Fr. Tiernan Doherty cp, Fr. David King cp, Fr. Tom McDonough cp
Delegate to an Extraordinary General Chapter Fr. Christpher Monaghan cp
Substitute Delegate Fr. Tom McDonough cp
Please join us in giving thanks to God for elections conducted in a great spirit of fraternity and prayer.

FATHER LEO FITZPATRICK CP
In
the early hours of the Feast of St. Leo the Great, the 10th of November,
while sleeping, Fr. Leo Fitzpatrick CP entered eternal life, aged 94 years.
Fr. Leo was born at Woollahra, NSW on April 13, 1912 and given the baptismal name of Lionel.
Lionel made his First Profession of Vows as a Passionist at Mary's Mount, Goulburn, NSW on May 31, 1936, having taken the religious
name of Leo.
Fr. Leo CP was ordained a priest in the Cathedral Church of St. Francis Xavier, Adelaide, SA on July 26, 1942.
On the day of Leo's death, our Provincial, Fr Denis Travers CP, wrote to the Passionist Family of Australia, Papua New Guinea and
New Zealand:
"After a period of frailty and illness Leo now is in God's own care and enjoys the rewards of his loving and generous life, a life spent
faithfully as a Passionist and gentle shepherd to God's people.
On this feast of St Leo the Great it is fitting that we hand over to God our own brother Leo, who over the course of his life was a leader
for us, a wise guide and formator, a sure preacher and fatherly presence in
the life of so many of us. Leo will be fondly remembered by countless men and women whom he had served most faithfully as a religious and
priest over these many years."
The First reading for the Feast of St Leo, the Great, is from the Old Testament Book of
Ecclesiasticus, Chapter 39. So much of that
reading is most appropriate to the life of Fr. Leo Fitzpatrick :
"It is the will of the great Lord, the scholar will be filled with the sprit of understanding, he will shower forth words of wisdom and in
prayer give thanks to the Lord. He will grow upright in purpose and learning, he will ponder the Lord's hidden mysteries. He will display
the instruction he has received, taking his pride in the law of the Lord's covenant."
The Masses of Thanksgiving for the Life and service of Fr. Leo were:-
Monday 13th November 7.pm - Vigil Mass at Holy Cross, Temmplestowe, Victoria, the Passionist community to which Leo belonged.
Tuesday 14th November 10.am - Mass of Thanksgiving at Nazareth House, Camberwell, Victoria, where Leo has been a resident these past few
years.
Wednesday 15th November 2. pm - Thanksgiving Mass of Christian Burial at
St Brigid's Passionist Church, Marrickville, New South Wales, followed by burial in the Passionist section of Rookwood Cemetery.
Fathers Ron Davoren and Kevin Hennessy represented the Glen Osmond community at the Thanksgiving Masses in Templestowe and Camberwell.
Father Brendan Connell and Brother Stan Tyler represented us at the Funeral of Fr. Leo in Sydney.
The responsorial psalm for the Feast of St. Leo the Great is: "The mouths of the just murmur wisdom."
Lionel Leo Fitzpatrick had the wisdom of the Cross on his lips and in heart in his long earthly life. May he now praise the Lord forever in
the happiness of eternal life.
